The Customer is Wrong

Situation:  You are advising a team that includes customers from two different departments that have a long-standing rivalry, but you have a good relationship with both.  After many hours of negotiation, the team has finally agreed on a solution that satisfies both departments, but you know that it is not the best solution for the company as a whole.  In fact, their solution is in direct conflict with one of the strategic objectives of the organization.

Beyond-the-Contract Obligations

Whether you are an independent consultant or working for a consulting firm, sooner or later you'll find yourself on a subcontract to a client through another consulting firm.  This is a relatively common occurrence in IT consulting and not unheard of in any field.

Lessons for a new business owner-stick to your standards

I was intrigued to learn via LinkedIn of the upcoming seminars for new consultants. What a great topic! I have a partner who is also independent and we often think about doing just this. Focusing on a "wish I knew then what I know now" in order to help people make smart decisions faster when starting out! We both learned from the school of "hard knocks". My biggest lesson (among many) is that not every prospect is a good fit, and that no money in the world is worth sacrificing your integrity and standards for.
