Aug 10, 2009 - Houston Event Announcement

Houston, TX – August 10, 2009 – Consulting Stance will show Houstonians how to effectively and profitably market their knowledge in a two-day Consulting Career Workshop to be held Wednesday and Thursday, September 9 and 10 at the Sheraton Brookhollow, 3000 North Loop West.

Consulting Stance principals Christine Lambden and Casey Conner, the “Consultants to Consultants,” will provide attendees with all of the tools they will need to start building their own independent consulting practices. Topics explored during this interactive workshop include:

• How to set up your business
• How to find clients and negotiate deals
• How to accomplish objectives and win referrals when working with clients
• How to establish yourself as an authority in your industry and community

While many people would not necessarily think of themselves as suited for a career in consulting, Lambden and Conner believe that most professionals possess sufficient marketable knowledge. “The only thing most people are missing is confidence,” said Lambden. “We find that many of our clients undervalue what they know.” Added Conner, “You don’t have to be the ultimate guru as long as you’re ahead of the field.” He went on to explain, “You just need to know how to package your knowledge.”

According to Lambden and Conner, a career in consulting holds appeal for different types of individuals. Many young professionals are drawn to consulting by a desire for independence and variety. In the case of more seasoned professionals, an official retirement doesn’t necessarily mean that they don’t want to stay active in business. “Many people are retired, but they aren’t through working,” Conner observed.

Job satisfaction is uniformly high among those who open their own consulting practices. “It’s rare for anyone to leave the field,” Lambden said. “Getting paid for your advice is the best job in the world!”

Those attending the Consulting Career Workshop will receive a copy of Lambden and Conner’s book, “Everyday Practices of Extraordinary Consultants,” a $24.95 value. This volume contains a wealth of guidance and wisdom from these veteran consultants, illustrated with real-life examples gathered from years on the road. Written as a field guide for consultants working in any industry, the book includes very specific skills that any consultant can master to improve communication, productivity and job satisfaction.

The Consulting Career Workshop is sponsored by “The BusinessMakers,” the online resource and national radio show for entrepreneurs by entrepreneurs, which is broadcast in Houston on KPRC-950 AM on Saturday mornings. Online registration is available at www.ConsultingStance.com and costs $595.00.

Though the Consulting Stance workshops cover a defined set of topics, each class is different, depending on the interests and needs of the attendees. “People in the room have an impact on what we talk about,” Lambden said. The Consulting Stance training approach combines traditional lecture presentations with interactive training, which encourages collaborative learning in realistic situations. Participants apply their varied background to reinforce learning as the workshop progresses. “Professionals learn best by doing, rather than hearing or reading. So that's how we teach,” Conner explained.

“Our classes are fun,” Lambden stated, “People are laughing as they’re learning.”
